As farmers and land stewards, we have a passion for learning. An important part of our whole farm vision includes sharing that learning with others through education and research. We provide opportunities for farming and environmental education, including farm tours, speaking engagements, and soil health workshops. In Spring 2021, we will be providing on-farm learning opportunities for students from Cowichan Secondary School’s Environmental Stewardship Program.

Green Fire Farm employees gain hands-on experience in soil and water stewardship, plant and animal welfare, and many of the essential farm maintenance and care skills required to operate a diverse farming operation. As with many of DeLisa’s previous UBC Farm Practicum and Young Agrarian mentees, we take pride in supporting our former farm field crew with their next steps as practicing farmers or food systems entrepreneurs.

Green Fire Farm also collaborates and consults with partners in on-farm research projects. Most recently, these have included UBC’s Sustainable Agriculture Landscapes Lab, the Canadian Organic Vegetable Improvement (CANOVI) cultivar trials, and the Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture.
